CAREPACKS SHIPS 100th PACKAGE TO U.S. TROOPS
Major Boston Fundraiser Planned for April 2005

South Weymouth, Massachusetts, February 12, 2005 – On February 8, 2005, CarePacks, a neighborhood organization that produces and sends care packages to US troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, shipped its 100th package.

Since October 2004, CarePacks has been organizing, fundraising, collecting goods, packing boxes, and shipping them off to soldiers. Many community groups have contributed to CarePacks’ success, including St. Francis Church, St. Jerome Parish, Weymouth High School FCCLA (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America), Quincy Junior Girl Scout Troop, and Quincy Cub Scout Pack 42. Many local businesses have also contributed funds and goods to CarePacks, and the list of these generous businesses can be found online at http://carepacks.home.comcast.net.

Founded in October 2004, CarePacks grew out of the Weymouth neighbors’ concern for US soldiers fighting in the Iraq War. These neighbors organize fundraising events to promote their mission, and they hold packing parties to prepare care packages for shipping. While it started as a holiday project, CarePacks’ work will now extend well into 2005 if not into 2006.

CarePacks Needs Soldiers’ Names and Addresses
CarePacks needs names and addresses of soldiers involved in the Iraq war and those serving in Afghanistan. You can email this information (including your name, address, and phone number for information verification) to carepacks@comcast.net.

Big Plans for the Future
On April 30, 2005, CarePacks will host a benefit designed to raise funds for the organization. The event will take place at the IBEW Local 103 (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers) union hall in Boston. There will be live music by Draw the Line, the official Aerosmith tribute band; a silent auction with many items up for bid, including sports memorabilia; and a food court with food from local restaurants and caterers.

All inquiries to CarePacks should be directed to carepacks@comcast.net or CarePacks, PO Box 536, South Weymouth, MA 02190.
